Boxwood, too, but not sure I can find a variety hardy enough. I certainly appreciate all the ideas and suggestions! There are some vegetables that will tolerate shade Mary Delle. I may try some in the future and will be sure to let you know how they do. Yes, Deborah, I am going to have to get rid of that grass - it IS a pain to edge! I am certainly not a fan of math Conscious - I just think of it as "space" - negative and positive - like painting, so no math required really. Would love to find a 'free' rock pile somewhere - will keep searching. We'll look into those cover crops Sylvana, and would be so interested in learning more about them. Would love to tour all of your potagers! Thank you so much. And thank you to all who "picked" this post!Kathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07694829333592209275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8205789828720292919.post-62734645603946094332009-12-04T16:47:50.275-05:002009-12-04T16:47:50.275-05:00i loved watching the transition from the start of ...i loved watching the transition from the start of your raised beds to being in full bloom. lovely!! my garden is kind of a stream of conscious potager where each bed is mixed with annuals, perennials, vegetables and herbs. not only is it pretty, but it also creates a great opportunity for good pollination and companion planting.
can't wait to see your sketches for next year's plans :)a tasteful gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01087114615825374568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8205789828720292919.post-22789641783018419072009-12-04T00:41:29.865-05:002009-12-04T00:41:29.865-05:00Oh, I always forget cover crops! I finally got rid of the grass around mine this fall, it was a pain edging the beds, (and the grass went under the wooden edge and grew into the bed). I am hoping for stone/brick paths, but everything takes time, doesn't it.
DeborahAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8205789828720292919.post-87853375654150156582009-12-01T23:40:44.319-05:002009-12-01T23:40:44.319-05:00I love it! It has a white picket fence around it and red roses on one side. I put up an arbor with 4th of July climbing roses on it in front of the gate. So much more to do, but yours is a great inspiration!Frenchiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05036441911167065687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8205789828720292919.post-22324599401868461382009-12-01T22:46:53.569-05:002009-12-01T22:46:53.569-05:00Very interesting! I planted boxwoods around my crescent-shaped kitchen garden and allow some flowers to grow there. Together with marigolds and nasturtiums, I like to have calendula among vegetables.Tatyana@MySecretGardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15230255354868127650noreply@blogger.com
