A Garden Blog is Never Finished

Much like my garden, it seems my blog will never be "finished." I think I have changed the layout about six times already. Well, I am new to blogging and of course, must explore all my options. At first it was too plain and the green too bright. And the "violet" color wasn't quite right - but I should stick with violet because it's in the name, right? Then it seemed too garish and the background too loud. Then it seemed too busy with a flourishing background AND flourishing title. Then the title just didn't seem subtle enough and the background was still a bit too frilly.

If I have learned anything about design - it's that less is more. So now I am back to plain.

This has been much like designing a new perennial bed ... Those yellow flowers clash too much against that red bee balm ... Hmmm, I could use some more blue foliage to deepen that purple patch right there ... That spot looks kinda empty, maybe I should add a ground cover there ... I need something "spikey" there ...

I hope you will still enjoy my blog even though it's "in the making."

  1. Looks like you've arrived at a nice combination here. It takes as much work as the garden sometimes! Happy gardening and garden blogging.

  3. I know the feeling...I feel the same way about content and layout the way you are feeling about your color scheme right now. I like the new header a lot!

  4. I like your new digs. No matter what you do with it, I still enjoy your writing and blog posts. Besides, it doesn't cost to re-decorate your blog. If only if were that easy to re-paint my house. I wish for one click and then a new color would appear. :)

  5. I agree that a garden and a blog are never finished. I do like your new title photo and graphic.

I think gardens and blogs are kind of like wanting to redecorate or change your hairstyle. Totally normal...

  8. I'm really enjoying your changes to your blog. Simple, but elegant. Thank you for your comment on my post Arboretum wildlife. So glad you enjoyed the heron. The red flower bush is a fairy duster, name courtesy of one of my visitors. By the way, how did you get the moon phase widget on your blog?

  9. I think it's looking great. It's fun doing all the rearranging on the blog. It's sort of like moving plants or furniture around.

  10. I am fascinated by the similarities between the evolution of the garden and the evolution of the garden blog. I guess it's so personal and everyone's different. Some like vibrant and some like pastel and soothing. Some like formal and some like laid back and frequent changes. I'm with AZplantlady, gardens and blogs never end. Thank goodness!

  12. Hello,

There is an award for you on my blog. I hope that you will accept it but I won't be offended if you don't. You may have already received it, but you have been so supportive and I wanted you to know that I really appreciate it.

  13. Thank you all for your comments and to those who picked this post. It's nice to hear that we all like redecorating and I suppose if we ever felt the garden was about to be "finished" we would find a new project or redo an old bed! What a great idea to change your header with the seasons patientgardener. And although the winter can be long, it is the change of seasons that is part of the joy living here. Thanks for your support everyone!
